Do you love dog stories?

Recently I’ve read three delightful dog stories–about a Collie, a mutt, and a Labrador, two of them about real pets. In two of them, the dog tells his own story. One is told in poetry. All of books are so enjoyable.

Sam, A Shaggy Dog Story by Sally Cronin

My thoughts: Sam, a handsome and very smart Collie, tells his own story from his early days and “milk on tap” meeting new humans and furry friends. When he met the bedraggled and toothless feral cat Henry, Sam commented that he had a “lifetime of smells on him, and grooming had not been his main focus recently, if ever.” Sam’s favorite musician? Shania Twain. You’ll love this this story of a shaggy dog with his very loving humans.

It’s the Dog’s Fault by Susan R. Lawrence

From Amazon: A boy with ADHD. An unwanted shelter dog. And a very busy family. A combination that spells disaster. Through a hilarious series of mishaps, the entire family learns valuable lessons about the Fruit of the Spirit, particularly patience and self-control.

Will Hank be the answer for Kaden’s ADHD? Or will his shenanigans force the family to return him to the shelter?

Hank, the lovable mutt, will wag his way into your heart as he narrates this humorous, yet powerful, story of hope.

King Copper: Our dog’s life in poetry by Lauren Scott

My thoughts: What a dear memorial and remembrance for a favorite rescue pet. Also filled with photos, readers will enjoy learning how Lauren and her family first met Copper and those first days of getting acquainted. Such a wonderful family pet for all four in the family, Copper helped them to eventually adjust to an empty nest. The poems of losing their pet are so sorrowful, but the best ones are just of their appreciation of being his rescue family. A heart-felt collection.

  1. What a delightful pack of dog stories! Love King Copper but I wasn’t familiar with the rest. I’m still laughing about the lessons of the Fruit of the Spirit. Thank you so much for sharing!

    • After I read your delightful Sam, the Shaggy Dog, this one came together so quickly. Susan’s It’s the Cat’s Fault is due out later this month. I’m going to have to have a look at it as well. (She also has a poignant historical novel called Flight of the Red Wing Blackbird.)

  2. As a lifelong dog owner, I love dog stories. Sam is my favorite of Sally’s stories. Having recently lost our wonderful dog Lulu, I was touched by Lauren’s poems and memories of King Copper. I haven’t read about Hank’s adventures, but I love dogs with big personalities, even if they get into mischief.

  3. My husband and myself absolutely love dogs. I grew up with Collies as a young girl, but now we have a Corgi. Thank you for sharing these books with us!

    • Thank you, Linda. The middle book is by an Iowa Christian author, who has a new one coming out this month called It’s the Cat’s Fault. Corgi’s are darling. We have one in the neighborhood!
