Finally, an answer

My Favorite Guy can text!

My Favorite Guy finally has his own cellphone, rather than using my last castoff. He’s been tenacious about learning how to use it, even how to text.

That came in handy last week when I had a test and needed to be sedated. After being sent back to the waiting area for the test to begin, he texted son Dan and his wife. Then again when I was in recovery.

Finally, a note about the diagnosis: Crohn’s, a lifelong condition that can’t be cured.

Although surprised by it, I finally have an answer to the miseries of the last several months. Very few people are diagnosed with it at my age. Most people develop it before the age of 30, but I’m thankful it didn’t show up earlier.

I don’t know how quickly the steroid prescribed might offer relief, when I get to try it. The pharmacy closed early Friday because of the lack of staffing. I’d certainly like to enjoy lunch out with my Favorite Guy later this week for our 59th anniversary!

Then learning to live with this new disease.

What’s next?

A heart surgeon next month. But what about “we’re watching your aorta”? Well, it’s time to talk to a surgeon. Another new experience, as Grandma Leora used to say.

  1. So happy to hear you’ve got answers, dear Joy. Sending love…and early anniversary greetings for you and your new texter, Guy! 🥰

  2. Always wishing you and Guy well and with prayer. Connie and I had just been married May 7. Maybe you remember, earlier that Spring the 4 of us had “bumped”. Into each other at a McDonalds near Merle Hay Mall. Guy will use the new smart phone. I finally gave up a flip phone about 2 1/2 years ago and really enjoy mine. Like in 2 hours waiting on a repair on our 2003 Nissan. Happy Anniversary

  3. Good for Guy–and you, since he’s using that phone so well! (We’re still using hand-me-down phones from our daughter!) We’re praying for your meds to work as hoped, that you get to enjoy that anniversary dinner out with Guy, and that the consultation with the surgeon reveals a positive outlook. Keep everyone posted!

    • Thanks, Dennis! Guy would delete something from old phone, which would delete the same thing from the desktop! Still waiting on the pharmacy to call. They closed early Friday because of a staffing shortage. The doctor’s office warned about the cost so said to check first and if it’s exorbitant they’d prescribe something else (steroid).

  4. My friend’s mother had Chrons for years. Hopefully the treatment is even better now. Praying for relief for you and that you will be free of pain. 59 years!! What an incredible achievement!! Happy anniversary!!

  5. It must be somewhat a relief to know what you’re dealing with. Uncertainty leads to worry. I have some type of autoimmune disease (Chrohns is one theory), though my symptoms aren’t as bad as yours. I am feeling fatigued latelyand naps have suddenly become a far more regular part of my life in the last year. My best to you, Joy. I hope you get some relief.

    • Thanks, Pete! I had emergency surgery 9 years ago for diverticulitis. That’s what I was expecting, so I’m thankful they haven’t mentioned surgery. I’ve lived with fibromyalgia for two dozen years. I’ve made peace with it with three naps a day! In between naps I can take a walk, read, edit. Neither of us can travel anymore, but we have a fun home to feel crummy in!

  6. Thank you for the health update, Joy. You’ve been on my mind the last few days. I hope the docs are able to get you on a good treatment plan to manage your symptoms.

  7. I’m sorry you have another chronic health issue to deal with. From what I understand, if you already have an autoimmune disease you’re more prone to develop another. My niece developed Crohn’s when she was in her twenties and got off all her meds ten years later by going vegetarian. But a friend of my husband has it, eats garbage food (plant and animal), and he’s just fine! I pray that you have the pleasure of a wonderful lunch date with Guy in celebration of your 59th-CONGRATULATIONS!

  8. Texting can be a good way to communicate at times. Just don’t do it while driving. Sorry to hear that you have Crohn’s, Joy. I hope the doctors can help you.

  9. Joy and Guy,
I always delight in getting updates from you two! I am relieved that you now have a diagnosis, Joy, although I know it’s not the one that could take all of this off your plate. I had a friend, whose son was diagnosed with this perhaps 30 years ago, on the night of his wedding day. God’s timing sometimes perplexes us, huh?
I hope you know that you and Guy have supported others many times over, by your patience, faith, and steadfastness. (as well as the many good deeds!).
Continue to hang in there, my friends!
Love you….and yes, I continue to miss the neighborhood. 🙂

  10. Sorry to hear about a health concern. Praying your body will respond to the treatment. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Blessings on the years ahead for you, two.
