Applique Butterfly Quilt

The iron bed also came from the attic of the farmhouse my husband grew up in. Wedding photos of Clabe and Leora Wilson are in oval frames on the corner. Grandma Ruby Neal crocheted the red doily under the ginger jar lamp. I made the small pillow, with GRANDMOTHER crocheting on it.

This quilt came from the attic of the house my husband Guy grew up in. His mother couldn’t remember whether her mother made it or her mother-in-law. I have a note that a sister of Guy’s Grandma Rosie Coleman Kidney made these butterfly quilts outlined with black buttonhole stitching, so this may have been made by Grandma Rosie.

  1. What a beautiful quilt. I love the colors and the pretty butterflies. Grandma Rosie was a talented quilter.

  2. That bed is amazing! I love the way you’ve arranged everything, with the bed at an angle.

    • Thanks, Lynne. For a “master bedroom,” it’s small so the furniture is crowded. There’s a little table at the head of the bed, handy for my cpap, fan, etc.!

  3. I have the same quilt. I believe it was made by my great grandmother. I also have the iron bed and dresser that belonged to my great grandparents.
    These are precious treasures!

    • Especially families in poverty. Nothing from fabric survived from my grandmother, not even her the wedding gown she made. I wonder whether fabric from it was used to make gowns for the three babies they lost during those days.
