Monroe, Michigan in the mid 90s at a local AME church. She was the epitome of peace. Someone actually took a picture of me shaking her hand, I treasure that.
Oh my, a treasured corner of history. How amazing!
I grew up on a farm with chores before and after school.
I got my first summer job ($1 an hour) when I was 11 driving tractor and mowing fairways at a golf course until they found out I was only 11 (required age was 12 so they hired me back next summers).
I learned to play piano as rehab for my arms and fingers from a farm accident. after thousands of hours practiced (seemed like) I could finally play a recognizable song (only mom recognized it).
I packed the extra car (on hand at the farm) with several kids and gear and went camping in Canada at age 15. I had a farm license for driving within 25 miles of home…mom and dad thought we were close by for 5 days. No one checked my license at the border either way. It was a 180 mile drive.
My next wilderness camping trip this spring will be # 70 in leading groups…The first one doesn’t count.
These are such fun, Gary. Sounds like you wanted to grow up in a hurry. Hurrah for all those camping trips. My husband did farm chores before and after school, hoping he didn’t smell like cows when he got there. Thanks for the fun!
1. I grew up without a television.
2. I’ve seen one president in person: George W. Bush. (I even have a letter from him regarding my nephew’s death in Iraq.) But I’ve met a large number of wanna-be presidents, including Thompson, Romney, Huckabee, Scott, Haley, Duncan, Graham, Carson, Hunter, and DeMint.

You must go to political rallies! I’d love to meet Tim Scott! When did you get a TV? We have one but I don’t watch it. You’re tall enough that classmates may not have realized how young you were in college. There are 8 young people who are blessed to have you as their grandfather!
1.) I’m related to Minuet on my father’s side. 2.) I ran away from home at 17 with my girlfriend, my car, and $340. 3.) I’ve worked on teams which built 13 houses in Mexico for the poor. 5.) I got married while still in high school, 43 years ago in a few weeks. Still happily married.
Angel encounter? Goosebumps! Hurrah for house building, and for your solid family after a rocky start. Who is Minuet?
Five surprises!
Peter Minuet?!
The guy who bought Manhattan???

Guatemala? Law enforcement! I had to look up the Ringo and broccoli one! Thanks for the fun, Eilene!
He said something to that effect in the recent AARP Magazine. Ha!
Yes, as far as I know, Peter Minuit was involved in the purchase of Manhattan Island. I once read a book, “A Man and His Ship”. It spoke much of Minuit.
And the SS Peter Minuit was a WWII Liberty Ship!
1. I’m in my 50s, and this is the first year I’ve gotten over my hesitation to take notes in my Bible. Haha, I’m finally hip and Bible journaling like all the cook kids!

Robin Grunder has published a way to Bible journal for those squeamish about marking in our Bible, or don’t have enough room: https://www.amazon.com/Memoir-Margins-Psalms-Journaling-Story/dp/1637971532?ref_=ast_author_dp
How cool that you’ve seen Truman and Eisenhower!

6. I’ve been married to the same man for 54 years.
What a fun list, Connie! I don’t think I could reach the gas pedals when I was 11. (I learned in our farm yard, age 16.)
Thanks. Your post was such fun.
I enjoyed reading other people’s responses.
Well…there must be a story about the ‘no bathtub’. I could live without one, but with small children – that must’ve been a challenge. I’ll have to mull about my ‘fun facts’. Love this post and the replies, Joy. 🥰
Bless you, Vicki! The tub story has become tomorrow’s blog post!
Yay!!! I knew there would be more to the story. Xo, Joy! ❤️
Let’s see.
