Joe Kenney has puttered over graveled roads from eastern Nebraska to western Iowa and beyond. He posts his winsomely composed photos, taken with just his cellphone camera, on Facebook. He also freely gives permission for folks to reshare them. Now is the perfect time, since we’re to get our first snowstorm of the season here in Iowa this week.
Here are a couple of favorite tractors-in-winter photos. The first one is the cover photo this month for the Historic Guthrie County, Iowa, Facebook page.

A few bonus photos by Joe Kenney:

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. Stay warm and safe during the winter storm. Lots of schools have already canceled classes.
Thanks, Hyatt! I don’t mind snow, but I’m praying we don’t lose power!
They are great, Joy. Please tell Joe, I can tell he has a sense of humor and a wish for everyone to enjoy Americana!
He’s recovering from hip replacement, so that will cheer him up. Thanks, GP!
The mailboxes are quite clever.
Yes! My sister retired as a junior high art teacher. She painted the farm mailbox where we grew up like a Hampshire hog (black with a while belt), pink nose on the lid, a curly tail on the back (baling twine with wire in it for the curl). Thank you, Swabby!
I love the mailboxes!
It might also be a neighborhood rivalry. As a kid, we argued red tractors vs. green, and Chevys vs. Fords! ha
Fantastic — every photo! I especially love the first one. I don’t know why. Those low-slung old brick buildings hold so much history, don’t they? Thank you for sharing, Joy. 🥰
Someone just wrote (on the Guthrie County History FB page) about his memories of being treated to a bottle of pop at the blacksmith shop there as a little kid! Gee, this is fun!
I love that!!! 🥰❤️🥰
We had our first snowstorm this past weekend. No damage, fortunately. I particularly like the photo of the broken-down fence and the snow. It could be a painting.
I think someone just asked Joe if they could paint the scene! He always says yes.
I’m not at all surprised!
These are wonderful pictures, Joy. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Thank you, Tim. He’s got dozens of beauties, but I’m certainly drawn to his winter scenes. These days it’s more fun to see photos than to be out in it!
I agree.
Of all these wonderful images, my favorite is the old snow covered car with the dog standing near the rear of it and the red barn in the background. Fabulous. 🙂
I bet Joe was tickled when the dog became part of it!
Oh, absolutely! The dog really makes the picture come alive, deD car and all!
Great pics, Joy. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Dave. It’s hard to believe Joe just uses his cellphone camera!
