A Dexter treasure,
he stoops from sixty years
of barbering, now
joined by his daughter,
customers in bib overalls,
seedcorn caps, work shoes,
nodding politeness,
with country drawls,
the Simpson Shear Shop
especially busy
when it rains and farmers
cannot get into the field.
I like this poem very much! It immediately brought to mind my little brother going to Mickey’s with a quarter to get his hair trimmed.
Dennis used to cut my Dad’s hair, now does my husband’s, and decades ago gave our son his first haircuts! (His daughter does mine. Yes, we drive to Dexter for haircuts!)
Hey, a good barber/hairdresser is hard to find!
