This is the manger scene from my childhood. As I got it out this year I noticed that Mom noted that her mother (Leora Wilson) had given it to her, probably in the early 1950s.
The background stable is new and the angel isn’t part of the original figures. A shy donkey is at the left.
I didn’t know when I was young that the magi weren’t part of the newborn scene, although the shepherds were. But I enjoy that they are part of a childhood heirloom that I’ll pass down to my own granddaughter.

This looks very much like my mother’s childhood creche. One of our Christmas traditions when I was a child was setting up to place all of the figures just so.
I think this year I need new tissue paper to wrap each piece in.
It was lovely to see your manger scene. I have two and sadly, I didn’t take them out this year so this was really a treat for me 🙂
I was tempted to just leave them all individually wrapped in tissue, since no one but the two of us would see it this year. Then I noticed that it was Grandma Leora who gave it to us when we were kids. Well, that called for a blog post, and I’m so thankful you were blessed by it.
Just lovely. I really wish my mother had saved the nativity scene from my childhood. She got some fancy new one somewhere along the line and got rid of the old one. She doesn’t like to hold onto anything she doesn’t view as necessary. I loved all the textures of ours.
I have a newer one too, but prefer the small older one.
