Balroop Singh’s 5-Star Review

Balroop Singh gave The Immigrant and the Outlaw a 5-Star review on BookBub:

Joy Kidney is a gifted storyteller. Like a magician, she can conjure stories out of meteor showers. Her stories carry a touch of realism, as she would stay up past midnight to scan the sky, wear a layer of bug spray, and lie on a blanket in her backyard to make the wondrous summer nights more delightful. It is a pleasure to read such anecdotes within her stories.

‘Thunderstorms and Quiet, Spring Rains’ beautifully captures the innocent charm of walking in the rain and watching raindrops fall into the stream, making wide circles. To her, distant lightning and thunder sounded like the beginning of a concert! Sometimes soothing, sometimes musical, rain transforms into a mystical dame in her stories. Mother Nature joins her to enhance the style of her enchanting experiences. Squirrels and birds too, jump into her wagon to tell their own stories.

Another aspect of the stories is their historical significance. A $45 piano, a treadle sewing machine, an oil stove heater, pink and green Melmac dishes and a maroon sofa, and many such little details paint a realistic picture of the house Kidney lived in. The stories of civil war, of Memorial Day memories, of Thanksgiving, of flu, and other dreaded diseases tell the battles of survival. Joy has artfully woven them together. Once again, she pays a touching homage to the five Wilson brothers who served in the Second World War. Only two came home.

Balroop Singh, a former teacher and an educator always had a passion for writing. She is a poet, a creative non-fiction writer, and a doting grandma. She writes about people, emotions and relationships. Her poetry highlights the fact that happiness is not a destination but a chasm to bury agony, anguish, grief, distress and move on!

Balroop Singh has always lived through her heart. She is a great nature lover; she loves to watch birds flying home. The sunsets allure her with their varied hues that they lend to the sky. She can spend endless hours listening to the rustling leaves and the sound of waterfalls. The moonlight streaming through her garden, the flowers, the meadows, the butterflies cast a spell on her. She lives in San Ramon, California.

I’ve enjoyed reading several of Balroop’s books, but I especially savored Hues of Hope: Selected Poetry. What a delightful collection of reflective poems chosen from the author’s readers’ favorites from her poetry books. Poems about dreams, angels, memories, serenity, aspirations, devotions, journeys, even solace.

Here is her Amazon Author Page, where you can learn about all the compelling books she’s written, fiction and poetry.
