An entire wall in Beaverdale Books, our incredible local indie bookstore, is devoted to books by Iowa authors, including autographed copies the Leora books and Meadowlark Songs. 515-279-5400
Locals may also find signed copies at our favorite restaurant, the Urbandale Machine Shed.
Art on State in downtown Guthrie Center also carries autographed copies.
Seven generations, six in Iowa, five in Guthrie County (and five in Dallas County), four were oldest daughters, three lived into their nineties, two earned high school diplomas, only one was born in a hospital and became the keeper of their stories.
If you’ll join me on the journey to discover the women in my motherline, you might begin to think about those foremothers whose mtDNA you carry and whose legacy is your own.
Mother’s Day might be a great time to stir up stories from the past.
Museum season begins Sunday afternoon (1:00-3:00) at the Dexter Historical Museum. I’ve donated copies of the books for them to sell.
I just saw some meadowlarks today. 🙂
I haven’t seen one in years! Oh, to get to hear their song again someday.
They are so pretty. 🙂
How wonderfully special!
Thank you, Annette!
Outstanding and congrats.
Thanks, Rich. It’s happening in the middle of medical tests, but I’m rejoicing nevertheless.
Congratulations, Joy. I recall that the meadowlark was the state bird when we lived in North Dakota. Kudos to your local bookstore in publicizing the work of some of Iowa’s authors.
It’s certainly a worthy state bird. I was so heartened when we took books to the bookstore and the woman at the desk said, oh good, we just got an order for this book!
Please put me down for one of these prized autographed copies. How much, and where to send the check? – Just one of your biggest fans.
Bless you, David!
I’ve been thinking about my family tree. It might be interesting to do.
Most of my “chasing after ancestors” was before son Dan was born. Since then, I’ve enjoyed pondering their lives surrounded by a place and a time in history.
Wonderful and Congratulations, Joy!
Thank you, Lauren.
Iowa sure does appreciate their home grown talent! Well done, Joy. 🙂
Thank you, Nancy.
Exciting news!
It sure is!
That’s wonderful, Joy!
Thanks, Tim!
