My thoughts: Wow, a love story set in WW II, complete with combat over Europe with B-17 Fortresses of the 8th Air Force. My thoughts: A tension-filled story about another Novak brother in combat and working through difficult personal histories that weaves both together, including D-Day, in a wonderfully satisfying book. (Especially since I was two days old when D-Day occurred, and because my Dad also flew sleek B-17s while waiting for enough B-29s to come off the production lines.) Attached is a B-17 pilot’s “jump and tuck” to get into the cockpit area. I’ve only done it backwards–came out that way.

My thoughts: This historical fiction follows the oldest of the three Novak brothers who served as pilots in WWII. Ray Novak is unsure of his bravery, but eventually is shot down and steals a German Me 262! Meanwhile in California, a widow deals with the ghosts of who she’d married and the secrets of his family. Dealing with racial injustice is also part of the satisfying story.
